Kannada Holy Qurbana Inaugurated at Diocese of Belthangady
After three years of prayer, dedication, and hard work, the Diocese of Belthangady celebrated a historic milestone with the inauguration of the Kannada Holy Qurbana. The solemn event was officiated by Bishop Emeritus Mar Lawrence Mukkuzhy in the presence of Mar James, marking a new chapter in the spiritual life of the Syro-Malabar Catholic community in Karnataka.

The newly revised Kannada Qurbana was celebrated with the participation of diocesan priests, representatives of religious congregations, and members of the laity. The occasion also served as a moment of remembrance and gratitude for Bishop Mar Joseph Arumachadath of Bhadravathi and Bishop Mar Sebastian Adayanthrath of Mandya, who had been instrumental in supporting this initiative from its inception.
The translation of the liturgical text from Malayalam to Kannada was led by Rev. Fr. Joseph Mattam of the Diocese of Belthangady, along with Fr. Biju Aranjaniyil MST, and representatives from the dioceses of Mandya and Bhadravathi. Their collaborative effort ensured that the liturgy remained faithful to its original meaning while becoming accessible to the Kannada-speaking faithful.
The inauguration of the Kannada Holy Qurbana stands as a significant step in promoting linguistic inclusivity and deeper participation in the liturgical life of the Syro-Malabar Church in Karnataka.
